We're a small Canadian team that got tired of the options. The other guys are priced in USD, built for budgeting philosophies that don't fit everyone, or just plain incomplete. None of them are built for Canadians, none of them give you the full picture, and none of them have a free tier that's actually useful. So we built OffTilt.
Your financial data stays in Canada. Your prices are in Canadian dollars — no conversion surprises, no waking up to a rate change that just made your subscription 20% more expensive. The budget categories are based on the Government of Canada's own framework. The banks we support are your banks.
It's built by Canadians, in Canada, for Canadians. We're not just the people who built it. We're the first customer. Every feature exists because we needed it. Every bug matters because it's our data too.
When we were younger and money was tight, there was nothing out there for people who actually needed help. No free tools, no helping hand — just paid services that assumed you already had it figured out. We had to figure it out the hard way. And by the time we could afford to pay for the apps that were supposed to help, most of them weren't worth the money.
We never forgot what it felt like to need help and have nowhere to turn.
OffTilt exists, in part, because of that. Budgeting shouldn't cost money to start. If OffTilt isn't right for you, you shouldn't have paid to find out. The free tier isn't crippled — you get budgeting, net worth tracking, transaction management, mortgage tracking, and financial goals. No time limit. No credit card required. Because the people who need it most shouldn't be the ones locked out.
Because we're not wealthy. We're not a venture-backed startup with a runway. We're a Canadian family that wanted a better tool for ourselves and decided to build it for everyone, funded with our own Canadian maple syrup money.
The people who want automation — bank sync, hands-off categorization, everything just working — pay for that. And those people keep the servers running for the people who need a free tier. That's not charity, that's just how it should work. People who get a hand up tend to pay it forward when they're back on their feet. We're counting on that.
